Escher’s Dragonfly is a performance constellation between software improvisers AIYA and Aiii and their creators Melody Chua and Chi Him Chik, respectively. The constellation plays with subversions of traditional visual hierarchies, masking the human performers within transparent screens and encouraging the audience to perceive the machine improvisers as the main protagonists. Through fleeting text fragments and immersive sonic and visual mediums, Escher’s Dragonfly molds imaginations of the improvisation machines and their various fluid identities, among which include: an environment, sonic extensions of the human performer, and distinct improvising agents.
